Celebrate Your Favorite Record Store.
Who Knew there was an actual ‘Record Store Day’ to be celebrated? Not me, but in case you need a reason to go buy some vinyl, tomorrow is Record Store Day. Yesterday I got an email from KEXP’s awesome blog master, Jim, asking for our personal record store memories.
I jumped on it since my first record store holds some of the happiest memories in my early years of music discovery. Here’s my entry:
“As a really young kid, I spent hours rifling through my mom’s albums, mostly just looking at the album covers and art, waiting for the day I was allowed to play them and not just play with them…they made great walls for the houses I built for my dolls. I always giggled at Herb Alperts Whipped Cream & Other Delights, thinking I found something I wasn’t supposed to see. The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Crystal Gayle, The Muppet Movie Soundtrack, tons of jazz and classical, it was a cornucopia. I knew the names Mozart, Wagner and Bach long before I knew Michael Jackson and Madonna. One Christmas when I was probably 9 or 10 years old, my brother gave me Def Leppard Pyromania on vinyl. My very own record. I immediately found out where he bought it, a store right up the street called Licorice Pizza. It was on Brookhurst in Huntington Beach, CA, just a bike ride away and was a great motivation to do my chores for that allowance. That was my first real record store, one that I called “My record store” (and what a great name). Albums in my collection from Licorice Pizza (keep in mind I was 10): Billy Idol, Madonna, Def Leppard, Stephen Tintin Duffy (you know you remember that one), Culture Club, Olivia Newton-John, Duran Duran and Morris Day & The Time, just to name a few. I’m so thankful for Licorice Pizza, it helped make me the music junkie I am today.”
Many DJs, KEXP employees and members of the NW music community contributed and you can read those stories here.
If it’s still open, go hit up your favorite record store tomorrow. Buy some vinyl and celebrate your days of discovering music.

Geraldine & Hillary
Geraldine Ferraro is backpedaling with her foot so far into her mouth that there’s no point in any of the “spin” or “damage control” she’s trying to do. She was making racist remarks in 1988 and maintains them today. She is so far off the mark and her comments are so devoid of the facts. In case you haven’t heard her comments, you can read about it here.
What’s worse is how horribly Hillary has handled it. I really don’t like her much anyways, she’s an old school politician who focuses on instilling fear in people to gain votes and who perpetuates false slander to help take down her opponent. I have no respect for that. And now I fear she is making a bad name for her party.
You know this, but I’ll say it anyways, vote. Vote, vote, vote, vote, vote. If you’re not registered, register NOW. It’s up to us, we can bring a change.
I love Keith Olbermann. I love that he takes a stand for what he believes in and even when I don’t agree with him, I have a great deal of respect for how passionate he is about the issues that matter to him. In this case, I think he’s right on the mark:

Happy Everything!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and that no matter what you were up to, you had some time to chill out and take a break from the day to day.
We had what we’ve dubbed ‘The National Lampoon Thanksgiving’, where if it could go wrong, it did, but we still made the best of it. We saw lots of friends and family which makes it all worth it. We have the best people in our lives.
Due to a buy-out of my division at ScreenPlay Inc. and some changes in operations, I was laid off from my Video Programming job. It was amicable and I have a great reference from them, but am now full swing in looking for a full time job. You can find my resume and audio all right here on the site. Let me know if you hear of anything!
Thanks again to Jonathan @ Xsive 1 Studios for the revamp of the website, it’s awesome, he does great work.
Happy/Merry everything to come over the next month and a great 2008 as well!
